Green WeddingsKick off your shoes and rejoice in the celebration of a green wedding. More than a trend, eco-friendly weddings are a way for an environmentally conscious couple to express their commitment to making their marriage — and the planet — better. Couples may choose to go all out like Alicia Silverstein’s 2005 barefoot all-vegan wedding or choose to make a difference in affordable and creative ways by using planet-friendly wedding decorations and favors. The Great Bridal Expo has some great ideas for groovy green weddings. Read on to learn more!

The Birds and the Bees

Delight your guests with love bird shaped birdseed wedding favors to take home and share with feathered friends. Bring small pleasures to your friends and family with a miniature natural bird’s nest favor made from twigs and filled with tiny eggs created from recycled sea glass, found river stones or polished marble.

Make a buzz with honey jar favors

Fill small jam jars with local honey and top with decorative fabric squares cut from cloth found at vintage shops.  Add a special touch to your honey jars with labels printed on recycled paper featuring cute sayings such as “Our love is sweeter than honey”, “Bee my honey” or “Meant to bee.”  Beeswax or honeycomb candles make a perfect complement to honey jars.

Nature-Inspired

Wildflower seed packets made of recycled paper and printed with organic inks make for memorable wedding favors. Give Native American inspired favor bundles of white sage leaves wrapped in natural twine. Besides white sage, they also come in cedar, lavender or sweet grass.

Enchant your wedding guests with the natural botanical beauty of a centerpiece wreath made of grapevine, pine cones, cedar swags or holly. Accent table-top wreaths by placing a large soy candle in the center.  Decorate your table centerpieces with tall clear recycled glass containers filled with locally-grown organic oranges, pears, apples, lemons, limes or peaches. Choose a live plant or herb as a table centerpiece decoration that a guest may take home to plant.

Green Love

Enthrall your wedding guests with a beautiful ice sculpture made from mountain spring water. Ice sculptures are an eco-friendly addition to a go-green wedding, and when they melt use the water to nourish nearby plants and trees.

Share the love at green weddings with an all-natural cotton or Muslim sachet favor filled with a potpourri of rose petals, lavender and rosemary and tied with a hemp string.

Create handmade origami decorations and favors made from vegetable dye colored paper. Folding cranes for a wedding is called “sembazuru” according to LisaShea.com. Ancient Japanese legend portends that a thousand folded cranes represent a wish of a thousand years of happiness and prosperity for a couple at their wedding.
