Beauty Tips for Your Wedding DayThe bells are ringing and your big day has arrived! Enjoy your ceremony with confidence by keeping your wedding makeup looking perfect all day (or night) with these helpful hints, tips and tricks. At The Great Bridal Expo gather inspiration and ideas for wedding day beauty from DIY secrets to information on how to hire a professional makeup artist.

Bridal Basics

  • Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. This is so your complexion will not appear withdrawn or dull.
  • Use a primer before applying foundation and moisturizer. Set your foundation with a thin layer of powder. Your makeup will last longer.
  • Hands off of your face do not tempt nature by zapping an unexpected zit.
  • When touching up wedding makeup with powder, it is important to include your neck. If you only touch up your face it will appear lighter than the rest of your body and look unnatural.
  • If getting married outdoors, be sure to wear a moisturizer with an SPF 30 or more. No need to be a red lobster in a white dress.
  • Never get a Botox treatment on the day of your wedding. Botox requires several days to work and you do not want to be the bride who can’t move her mouth to smile.

Bright Eyes

  • Select a water resistant eye liner and apply an oil-based under eye concealer if you think you might cry.
  • Waterproof mascara is a must for wedding makeup. Apply at least two coats. For the tear-prone, omit mascara to the lower lashes to keep smearing to a minimum.
  • Choose an eye shadow that has a matte or satin finish. Cream, frosted, sparkle or metallic eye shadows have a tendency to cake. The only cake at your wedding should be your wedding cake.
  • Do not pluck or wax your brows the day of your wedding.
  • Apply a shadow primer before eye color to make it last longer.

Sweet Cheeks

  • Choose a powder blush over a cream blush, powder has better staying power.

Sealed With a Kiss

  • Moisturize your lips with a lip balm or moisturizer to avoid dry cracked lips.
  • Line your lips with a lip pencil before applying lipstick. This helps extend the life of your lipstick.
  • Apply lipstick with a lip brush. For wedding day makeup that lasts longer, apply one coat, then blot with a tissue and apply a second.
  • Choose a matte or all-day lipstick to avoid constant reapplying.
  • Be sure to bring makeup remover. It takes only one lipstick smudge to ruin your dress.

Final Touches

  • Ask one of your bridesmaids to hold a small pouch filled with beauty touch-up essentials such as lipstick, lip gloss, moisturizer, concealer, powder, mints and a small comb.
  • Bring eye drops to remove any redness or irritation.
  • Keep tissues underneath your bouquet in case of tears or to wipe lipstick from the groom’s mouth.
