Adventurous Venues — the most exciting, bizarre and downright kooky places, ways and means to get married

Every couple wants their wedding to be unforgettable and an exceptional few go the extra mile to ensure their special day is unique in every way. Overall, your wedding reflects a blend of your personalities and common interests; have fun with the possibilities when choosing a creative location. A few tips and ideas for brainstorming include selecting a location with personal meaning and consider non-traditional locations such as the beach, a mountain meadow, ferry, winery, ball field, golf course, zoo, museum, forest, theme park or aquarium.

When getting married you might feel like you are walking on air and some couples quite literally take to the skies by exchanging vows while skydiving, floating in a hot air balloon or flying aboard an airplane. Want to race to the altar, consider a NASCAR wedding. Have a need for speed; then consider a roller coaster ceremony. Feeling like you are on top of the world at your wedding is a natural emotion for most couples but one pair actually did marry at the top of the world. Atop Mt. Everest in 2005, two Nepalese climbers Moni Mulepati and Pem Dorjee exchanged vows at 29,035 feet in what is considered the first wedding ever on the summit of Mt. Everest.

Extreme underwater adventurers might want to consider a shark cage wedding for a thrilling once-in-a-lifetime experience. Places that offer shark cage weddings include open water locations near shark habitats such as South Africa, Mexico, Hawaii and Australia and select shark aquariums. Diehard fans might want to dress up in costumes of their favorite era, movie or comic book hero such as Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Trek, Shrek, Marvel or DC superheroes, Avatar, Civil War, Victorian, Medieval, Renaissance, Tudor and of course, zombies of all types. Want to be really different? Have a nude wedding with your wedding dress painted on with body paint; this really saves on the wedding dress expense.

Getting married by Elvis is almost always a sign of a kooky wedding and what better place to get hitched than Las Vegas, home to casinos, show girls and drive-through wedding chapels. Another fun place to tie the knot is on a Ferris wheel. Travel to England for nuptials aboard The Eye, a world famous Ferris wheel and well-known London landmark. Pull on your mukluks for a below zero wedding in an ice hotel; often located in colder climates from Canada to Swedish Lapland or have your wedding at a ski resort and swoosh down powder white slopes after saying “I do.”
The Great Bridal Expo is a national show giving brides-to-be an opportunity to meet one-on-one with a variety of local and national businesses who want to make your wedding dreams come true. Click here for tickets.
