Wedding planners are professionals who make arrangements for weddings. They may be self-employed entrepreneurs or associated with a venue. Their work encompasses all details of a wedding from day one or for the day of. Wedding planners offer deep knowledge of local wedding vendors and are able to negotiate great deals. Part of the reason a couple may employ your services as a wedding planner is to save money.

Read on for wedding planner tips that help couples save money.

Wedding Date Suggestions

The most popular months for weddings are May, June, July and September. At these times of the year, wedding venues prices charge premium prices.  If your couple chooses to have a wedding during the off-peak season, the savings can be in the thousands depending on the location. The lowest prices generally occur from November through April when schedules are more flexible.  If the date is non-negotiable, consider less expensive options such as restaurants,  art galleries or city parks. Another idea is to take the wedding out-of-town to the suburbs for budget savings as city ceremonies usually cost more.

To Bar or Not to Bar?

Offering an open bar at a wedding can be very expensive for a couple on a budget. Limiting the selection of mixed drinks at an open bar or limit how long the bar is open, closing the bar an hour before everyone goes home. Options for a budget-conscious couple who want a bar includes a beer and wine only bar; hard liquor greatly increases the costs or suggest that your couple consider a signature drink, a specially designed drink for the wedding.

Location Deals

Help your couples save on costs with great location deals for their wedding. One way to do this is to hold the wedding and reception at one venue. By combining them it is like getting two locations for the price of one and demands less travel time from guests to transport between locations. Suggest renting a venue on a Friday or Sunday, Saturdays are generally more expensive. As a wedding planner, you can negotiate repeat business discounts with your preferred vendors.

Decoration Options That Save Money

Assist your couples with decoration costs, a great way to accomplish this is by suggesting the use of locally grown or in-season flowers.  Floral centerpieces, although lovely can be quite costly, recommend large elegant less-expensive votive candles as an alternative.
