Celebrate your wedding during the months of autumn when the leaves turn vibrant colors and the outside temperatures begin to cool. If your wedding occurs during the fall season this means you are getting married sometime between September 22 the start of the autumnal equinox through December 22. There are many themes to choose that unite nature and the time of year together. Read on for ideas for your autumn wedding.

Fall Foliage

When we think of autumn, the first things that comes to mind is images of spectacular forest scenery, of leaves changing colors consisting of fiery reds, vibrant oranges and bright yellows. Fall foliage can be quite inspirational for an autumn wedding theme. Choose a venue surrounded by trees such as sugar maples, red maples, aspens, sassafras, black tupelos or sweetgums. Select colors inspired by nature from deep jeweled hues to natural earth tones. Decorate with nature elements such as pumpkins, gourds, marigolds, wheat sheaves, hay bales or grape vines.

Oktoberfest

Incorporate the German tradition of Oktoberfest into your fall wedding. Dress in traditional German attire such as lederhosen for the groomsmen and dirndls for the bridesmaids. Choose the colors cobalt blue and white as a nod to Bavaria. Carry a bouquet of blue asters or corn flowers. Hire an oom-pah band to play at your wedding reception for thigh-slapping foot-stomping polka fun. Dance the waltz for your first dance. Offer beer steins filled with German beers such as Krombacher, Becks or Paulaner Weissbier. Create a German inspired menu offering hochzeitssuppe wedding soup, cabbage rolls, sauerkraut, and bratwurst.

Halloween

Share your love of Halloween with a scary wedding theme. Hold your wedding inside a haunted-looking Victorian home or eerie stone castle. Consider a nighttime wedding, a much scarier time of day than the morning. Invite guests to wear costumes, consider an attire theme such as movie monsters, vampires or zombies. Wear a black tulle wedding gown carrying blood red roses. Decorate the reception tables with jack-o-lantern centerpieces. Give trick-or-treat bags filled with goodies as guest favors.

Autumn Harvest

Be thankful for marrying the love of your life with a Thanksgiving theme wedding. Many couples choose the week before the actual Thanksgiving holiday weekend for the wedding date. Select colors such as walnut brown, orange, gold or cranberry red. Use natural decorations including squash, gourds, maple leaves, pumpkins, pine cones and acorns. Create tabletop cornucopia centerpieces filled with seasonal fruits and berries. Offer warm cider for guests to drink, the smell of cinnamon wafting through the air adds to the festivities. Give thanks to your guests with clove and nutmeg scented candles wrapped in burlap for wedding favors
