Communication is the key to networking, an essential ingredient to building relationships with your prospective clients, current customers and business partners or associates. Benefits of networking include learning about current wedding industry trends, checking out your competitor’s products, creating partnerships and increasing personal knowledge. Read on for tips and ideas for networking at a bridal show.

Network With Purpose

Successful networking begins before you attend a bridal show. Seek to understand the purpose of networking which is about building relationships and creating opportunities that are mutually beneficial for you and others. Make goals, take the time to get to know other business people in the wedding industry by asking questions about their company products or services and sharing how you might be able to assist them. And turn-about is fair play, be open by allowing others to get to know you and how they can help your business needs. Create positive partnerships by referring potential business contacts, building partnerships and sharing ideas.

Pre-Show Network Events

Attend pre-show networking events, but make sure you do your homework first by marking your calendar and learning who might be there by going over the exhibitor list. The exhibitor list is often provided to exhibitors before a show, politely request one if you did not receive yours. Types of pre-show networking opportunities include open receptions, mixers and sponsored events. Most pre-show events require an RSVP from exhibitors. Some pre-show events are sponsored by companies that provide invite information on their website, Facebook, email or by regular postal mail.

Bridal Show Network Opportunities

During the bridal show, walk the floor and introduce yourself to other exhibitors. If you are new to networking, make it a goal to contact people especially the businesses with booths situated next to yours. Walk the floor, go booth to booth, ask questions and collect information and cards from fellow exhibitors.

Questions to Ask When Networking

Optimize your time at a bridal show by asking questions that are open-ended and professional. Such questions include:

1.      Tell me about your company, what do you do?

2.      What type of products or services do you offer?

3.      What makes your business different from others?

4.       How did you get started in the wedding industry?

5.      What do you like the most about your business?

6.      What kinds of marketing efforts best for your business?

7.      What do you see as future trends in the wedding industry?

After the Bridal Show

Be sure to follow-up with a thank-you and brief note to all your new contacts after the show. The best way to do this is by email, letter, phone or over lunch.

Be sure to exhibit at the Great Bridal Expo, the only national touring wedding show featuring local and National companies covering everything from pre-wedding planning to the new home after the wedding. To request information on exhibiting or Sponsorship opportunities, click HERE.
