blog picYour best bud is getting married and as the best man, the planning of the bachelor party often falls upon you. The bachelor party is traditional rite of passage for the groom as he begins the transition from bachelorhood to married life. This usually occurs in the form of a special celebration. With a little planning and advanced preparedness, you can make the bachelor party an unforgettable event. Read on for tips on how to plan a bachelor party.

Create an Invite List

Decide on a guest list and determine how many people you want to invite to the bachelor party. Ask yourself what kind of party do you want to throw? Some parties are simple affairs with a few friends that take place in the evening for a couple of hours at someone’s home and other are large shindigs at a swanky location happening all weekend long. Traditionally, bachelor parties were for guys, now it is perfectly acceptable to invite female friends as well.

Choose a Time and Place

Select a location that you feel everyone can be comfortable at to have a good time. Think about what the groom would like, as the best man you might know him best after his fiancé.

Consider the groom’s personality when choosing the bachelor party destination such as a country club for a golf lover or a Las Vegas casino for the gambling type. Determine in advance if the party will be a one night event or occur over several days or long weekend.

Make Arrangements

Create a budget for all bachelor party expenses such as entertainment, drinks, venue and transportation. Make reservations in advance and always price compare before final bookings. Ask for references from entertainers and inquire about expectations of performances. Lastly, get all agreements in writing and confirm reservations.

Surprises and Fun

The goal of the evening is to celebrate and have fun with the groom on his last night as a single person and honor his upcoming nuptials. Fun bachelor party activities might include playing poker, golfing, sailing, drinking games or telling jokes. Surprise the groom with an old-fashioned Comedy Central-style roast, replete with good-natured joshing and ribbing.

After the Party

Some attendees may overly indulge during the festivities. Ensure the safety of all party-goers by making arrangements to have designated drivers or limousines available to drive guests home. Another option, if your bachelor party takes place near a hotel is to reserve a suite for the night for party guests who might have imbibed a bit too much.
