Happy beach coupleShare the beginning of your new life together as a married couple on a Caribbean honeymoon. Home to over 700 islands, the Caribbean is a newlywed favorite for honeymooning. The Caribbean beckons with clear turquoise seas, gentle tropical breezes, spectacular sunsets and soft sugary sands to wiggle your toes on walks together. In part IV of this series on island honeymoons in the Caribbean, the focus is on the tropical destinations of Aruba, Turks and Caicos, US Virgin Islands and Cuba. Read on to learn about these romantic Caribbean honeymoon destinations.

Aruba

Fall in love with Aruba, located in the southern Caribbean Sea off the northern coast of Venezuela and west of the Lesser Antilles. Aruba is home to the world renowned Eagle Beach, a beautiful sandy expanse featuring the unique divi divi and fofoti trees with twisted gnarly gray bark trunks and growing at unusual 45 degree angles due to direction of the ever constant trade winds. Another distinguishing fact of Aruba is that the island lies outside of the hurricane prone regions.

Turks and Caicos

Enjoy your honeymoon escape in the Turks and Caicos, a group of islands located southeast of the Bahamas. Historically, the Turks and Caicos were populated by survivors of ship wrecks and served as home to pirates including the infamous female pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read. The most popular island is Providenciales, things to do here include relaxing on the long white beaches of Grace Bay, enjoying the beaches of Taylor Bay or admiring the stunning blue waters of Chalk Sound.

US Virgin Islands

Consisting of several islands including St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John, the US Virgin Islands are located between the Atlantic and Caribbean east of Puerto Rico. Foodie lovers will delight in the local cuisine consisting of local specialties made from seafood, papaya, okra, sugar apple, soursop, tamarind, mango, genop, sea moss and goose berries. Best beaches include Maho Bay on St. John, Watermelon Cay in Virgin Islands National Park, Lindquist Beach on St. Thomas and the beaches of Buck Island near St. Croix.

Cubabeach couple walking

Take an unconventional honeymoon to Cuba, the largest island in the Caribbean located less than 100 miles from the Unites States. Known for cigars, Fidel, rum, baseball and dancing, traveling to Cuba for your honeymoon will be an outside-the-box experience and comes with restrictions. Recent bans on travel to Cuba have been lifted but with limitations such as no visiting beaches or scuba diving at this time. Inquire with the US State Department for additional details and further information.
