programShare your wedding story and inform your guests of the order of events on your special day with a program. Requiring little time to create, a wedding program adds a personal touch to your wedding and makes a wonderful memento for guests. Most wedding programs contain the same basic elements, read on to learn more about the essentials of wedding programs.

Significance

The purpose of a wedding program is to relate the different aspects of your wedding and recognize the wedding participants. Wedding programs are especially useful for large weddings where everyone might not know each other, long ceremonies for helping guest follow the proceedings and for couples with lots of people to acknowledge. Although wedding programs are optional, providing them for your guests is helpful and provides a commemorative keepsake for guests to take home.

Cover

Wedding program covers are similar to book covers, essential information to display includes couple’s names and date. Time and location may be optionally listed on the cover or mentioned inside the program. Choose a photograph of you and your beloved or select a special piece of art work to highlight on the cover. If your wedding program is one page, place your visual images near the top.

Order of Events

One of the vital items to include on your wedding program is the order events. This may be placed on the inside of a program with a cover or near the top of a single page program. Order of events may contain the processional, musical selections, vows, ring exchange, candle lighting and recessional.

List of Wedding Participants

Provide a list of your wedding party participants to help identify who’s who in your wedding. Traditionally, this list provides the names of the officiant, parents of the bride and groom, maid-of-honor, best man, bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girl, ring bearer and ushers. Additionally, you may include the names of singers or musicians performing at your ceremony.

Traditions or Rituals

Celebrate your traditions or rituals by providing a short explanation of the meaning and why it is important to you. Include any special requests for group participation such as singing, candle lighting, standing or kneeling.

Tributes

Pay tribute and offer expressions of gratitude to all the people who helped make your wedding a success including ceremony participants, family, friends, reception hosts and helpers. Dedicate your wedding or recognize loved ones with a thoughtful tribute who are deceased or absent. If you wish, add a love poem or quote about marriage.

Reception Directions

Furnish directions to the reception at the bottom or on the back cover of your wedding program. Include the name and address of the location with an optional map.
