socksWeddings are a wonderful time in your life as you get to marry the one you love. Attire selection is one of the many details that go into the making of your wedding and often overlooked apparel accessories are socks. Anyone in the wedding party may wear socks including the groom, groomsmen and ushers. Besides keeping your feet warm, socks can make a quiet statement of tradition or put the spotlight on fanciful fashion flair. Read on to learn more about wedding sock choices for guys.

Type of Socks

Socks help complete your wedding attire. Their main function is to serve as a clothing staple protecting your feet, providing warmth and feel comfortable. There are four main types of socks:

Dress Socks –Designed with formal occasions in mind, these socks come in understated patterns, fine fabrics and are often black, blue, gray or taupe.

Tuxedo Socks –Similar to dress socks, tuxedo socks are meant to be paired with tuxedos and are made of solid color luxury fabrics such as black or white, sometimes with subtle stripes or minimalist panels or patterns.

Athletic Socks –Casual socks aimed primarily for sports use, athletic socks are composed of a variety of natural and synthetic performance materials meant to enhance cushion comfort and provide wicking abilities during play or work.

Specialty Socks –This category includes medical and novelty socks. Medical socks are specially designed to help alleviate certain medical conditions and include diabetes socks, support socks and seamless socks. Novelty socks feature outside-the-box styles and may include unexpected bright colors or whimsical prints and patterns.

To Match or Not to Match

There are no hard and fast rules on how to wear your socks at your wedding. Your socks may match your trousers or coordinate with your shirt and tie or other attire or not match at all. Socks present a unique opportunity for the groom to express individuality and have fun such as wearing novelty socks or choosing socks the same colors as the wedding colors. The important thing is to be yourself and wear what makes you comfortable.

If you find yourself shopping in an upscale men’s store, you won’t find socks there, they are referred to as fine men’s hosiery.
