How to Avoid Wedding Wardrobe Malfunctions

Everything is a dream come true on your wedding day, and then the inevitable snafu happens, your wedding dress malfunctions. No need to panic, planning for a wedding  involves back-up plans and disaster preparedness such as having  an emergency kit on hand for wardrobe malfunctions. Wedding Wardrobe Emergency Kit

Put together your wedding day wardrobe emergency kit a couple of weeks before your wedding day. Fill a tote bag with items such as an alternative pair of shoes, extra undergarments, sewing kit with thread that matches your gown and the bridesmaid’s dresses, extra buttons, heavy duty safety pins, double-sided tape, hem tape, duct tape, cotton swabs, commercial stain remover wipes, make-up remover, rubbing alcohol, a roll of paper towels, chalk or baby powder and various stain removers. Include band-aids and moleskin in case your shoes rub blisters. Ask your maid-of-honor or one of the bridesmaids to be in charge of the wedding wardrobe emergency tote bag.

Straps

Strapless gowns display beautiful shoulders and elegant necks, but when it comes to dancing they often have a habit of shimmying down too low to behold. To keep your dress from falling down due to dancing or simply from the sheer weight of the fabric, attach removable straps. If your dress does not have removable spaghetti straps have a custom pair made to match your dress. Make sure you do not forget to bring your removable spaghetti straps to the wedding.

Zippers

Zippers breaking or sticking are a common occurrence at weddings. The key to preventing zipper catastrophes is to always connect the hook and eye at the top of the zipper. If the zipper tears away from the fabric be prepared to pin the gown.  Zippers often break because of too-tight clothing, have your gown properly fitted to your body shape. If your zipper is sticking and will not zip up, simply rub a bar of soap or candle wax to lubricate the zipper. If the zipper still will not budge, carefully place a single drop of oil into the head of the zipper. Before applying, be sure to protect the dress by covering with paper towels or handkerchiefs.

Spots and Stains

No matter how careful you might be with your dress there is always the potential of an accidental spill or mess. Arm yourself with a variety of spot and stain removers for those unexpected spills and messes. Always dab when removing a stain, never rub as this ingrains the stain further into the fabric of your wedding dress. For a red wine quick fix, use warm water then lightly dab to remove and gently cover with baby powder or chalk. If greasy food or ink gets on your dress take a damp cotton swab and dip it in rubbing alcohol then dab at the stain by working from the outer edge of the stain to the middle, cover any remaining marks with baby powder or chalk. Use a commercial stain removal wipe or liquid make-up remover for lipstick stains. These are quick fixes and not replace the services of a professional dry cleaner.
